DEPARTMENT OF WORKS & PENSIONS

If you or your Partner are on a low income and have to arrange a funeral, you may get help with the costs.

This is a one-off, tax free payment to help cover the costs of a funeral and may not necessarily pay for the full funeral.

Help may be available for anyone in receipt of the following Benefits:

  •       Income Support

  •       Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance

  •       Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance

  •       Pension Credit

  •       Working Tax Credit which includes a Disability or Severe Disability Element

  •       Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the Family Element

  •       Housing Benefit

  •       Council Tax Benefit

Claims must be made within 3 months of funeral date.  For more information or to claim, contact Jobcentre Plus for a claim form or visit www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk

In addition to the funeral benefit form FB500 which allows for an interest free loan of up to £500, this can be used to cover deposits required by some funeral directors.
